The University of Missouri Collaborative Arts Initiative is a project undertaken by the local chapters of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Sigma Alpha Iota, and Society of Composers, Inc. The project seeks to bring together artists from different departments and engage them in a collaborative project, of which the end result will be new works of music, writing, and visual art. This project will culminate in a recital competition in April 2014, during which the three teams of finalists (each consisting of a writer, a composer, and a visual artist) will premiere their works, which they will have spent months collaborating on. The goal is that the artists will become involved in each other’s creation process and that each team will present three works that are tied together, but not without their stamps of individuality. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place.
